BikeSpot Campaign hits 6,500 submissions!

The Bikespot project is not yet 3 months in, and we have over 2000 spots entered on the map. We've also got over 2,800 'supports' and more than 1,700 comments - which brings us to a whopping 6,500 + submissions. Woweeee!! That's great news for the 12 councils who have partnered in the project and of course for YOU the bike rider. At the conclusion of the project, the data will be compared to Vic Roads crash stat data , showing very clearly where there exits discrepancies between real and perceived risk. We hope that eventually, this data will help our council partners and all stakeholders create a more inviting and safe-feeling road environment.

See below the info on the project, and it's not too later to mark your spots!

.....

Launched at the 2016 Sustainable Living Festival with a Forum examining perceptions of safety and their impact on riders in Melbourne, BikeSpot is a unique bike safety project. Enabled by a TAC Community Road Safety Grant, BikeSpot sees The Squeaky Wheel teaming up with CrowdSpot and has attracted the support of over ten local government areas in Melbourne.

Feeling safe on a bike is something that matters a lot to us at The Squeaky Wheel. We spend so much of our time training people from all walks of life to safely get around Melbourne by bike and we firmly believe that everyone should be able to confidently use their bike to access their local community and everything it offers.

BikeSpotForum.jpg

BikeSpot will run for three months, collecting rider's and would-be-rider's feedback on how they feel while riding, after which our partnering councils will receive reports on the data collected in their area and comparisons between this data on rider's perception of safety and actual crash data statistics for the same areas.

Local government areas supporting BikeSpot include; City of Port Phillip, City of Yarra, City of Moreland, Maribyrnong City Council, City of Melbourne, City of Moonee Valley, City of Boroondarra, Frankston City, Brimbank City Council, City of Stonnington, Wyndham City and Bayside City Council.

If you missed your forum you can hear some highlights from the discussion on a podcast by the Yarra Bicycle Users Group.

You can check out the BikeSpot website here, make sure you add your own spot, and also find us on Facebook.
