Share Our Streets - Car Dooring

The Squeaky Wheel are back on the streets of Melbourne over the winter with the third part of the City of Melbourne's annual Share Our Streets campaign.

In 2014, The City of Melbourne first commissioned The Squeaky Wheel and behaviour change experts STUDIO HUSS to develop and deliver their new road safety campaign Share Our Streets, during which pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and motorcycle riders are asked to all play their part in making  everyone's journey around the city safer and more enjoyable. Share Our Streets has subsequently been run in 2014, 2015 and 2016. 

This third part of the campaign for 2016 focuses on car dooring, which remains a significant safety issue for cyclists moving around the city. Our staff will be engaging taxi-drivers, drivers of delivery vans, motorists and their passengers at sites on St Kilda Road and in Collins St. We'll be making sure they know what car-dooring is, how it affects cyclists, what the penalties are and getting them to take part in a Council survey.

We'll also be staging activations to remind drivers and passengers travelling in cars of their responsibility to check for passing cyclists before opening car doors and share tips on how to avoid causing injury to people on bikes, for example by opening car doors with the opposite hand. 

The Share Our Streets Car Dooring activations will be taking place on the following dates:

Monday June 20th   11am-1pm Collins Street east of Swanston Street

Thursday June 23rd  11am-1pm Collins Street west of Swanston Street

Friday June 24th       11am-1pm Elizabeth Street between Londsdale Street and Collins Street, Bourke Street

Monday July 4th       11am-1pm Collins Street east of Swanston Street

Tuesday July 5th      11am-1pm Collins Street west of Swanston Street

Thursday July 7th     11am-1pm St Kilda Road between Arts Centre and Federartion Square

The Squeaky Wheel are back on the streets of Melbourne over the winter with the third part of the City of Melbourne'<\/a>s annual Share Our Streets<\/a> campaign.<\/p>
In 2014, The City of Melbourne first commissioned The Squeaky Wheel and behaviour change experts STUDIO HUSS<\/a> to develop and deliver their new road safety campaign Share Our Streets<\/a>, during which pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and motorcycle riders are asked to all play their part in making  everyone's journey around the city safer and more enjoyable. Share Our Streets has subsequently been run in 2014, 2015 and 2016. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>

This third part of the campaign for 2016 focuses on car dooring, which remains a significant safety issue for cyclists moving around the city. Our staff will be engaging taxi-drivers, drivers of delivery vans, motorists and their passengers at sites on St Kilda Road and in Collins St. We'll be making sure they know what car-dooring is, how it affects cyclists, what the penalties are and getting them to take part in a Council survey.<\/p>
We'll also be staging activations to remind drivers and passengers travelling in cars of their responsibility to check for passing cyclists before opening car doors and share tips on how to avoid causing injury to people on bikes, for example by opening car doors with the opposite hand. <\/p>
The Share Our Streets Car Dooring activations will be taking place on the following dates:<\/p>
Monday June 20th   11am-1pm Collins Street east of Swanston Street<\/p>
Thursday June 23rd  11am-1pm Collins Street west of Swanston Street<\/p>
Friday June 24th       11am-1pm Elizabeth Street between Londsdale Street and Collins Street, Bourke Street<\/p>
Monday July 4th       11am-1pm Collins Street east of Swanston Street<\/p>
Tuesday July 5th      11am-1pm Collins Street west of Swanston Street<\/p>
Thursday July 7th     11am-1pm St Kilda Road between Arts Centre and Federartion Square<\/p>
