Basil Sellers Art Prize Tour
To celebrate the fourth Basil Sellers Art Prize at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, we are hosting a FREE guided bike tour of some of Melbourne's greatest sporting and cultural venues, taking in a stop outside National Sports Museum at the MCG and finishing up with an artist talk at the exhibition venue.
"Sport is about winners and losers, individuals and teams, rules and penalties, equipment and architecture, fans and souvenirs, triumphs and scandals." This tour will take in some of our cities most iconic venues, the MCG, NGV and Etihad Stadium. Along the way we will share our reflections on how sport and art jostle for currency in Melbourne's cultural life.
The Basil Sellers Art Prize defines sport in the broadest possible sense, this year the shortlisted artists are Tony Albert, Narelle Autio, Zoe Croggon, Gabrielle de Vietri, Ivan Durrant, Shaun Gladwell, Richard Lewer, William Mackinnon, Rob McHaffie, Noel McKenna, Rob McLeish, Fiona McMonagle, Raquel Ormella, Khaled Sabsabi, Jenny Watson and Gerry Wedd. An acquisitive prize of $100,000 was awarded to indigenous artist Tony Albert for his work Once upon a time … 2013-14
The tour will finish at the Museum with an artist talk by Ivan Durrant (featured), allowing participants to browse the exhibition and discuss the works together.
