MoreArt Festival - Launch Ride
One of our favourite times of year has to be the annual MoreArt Public Art Show.
Each year the City of Moreland invites artists to transform public spaces alongside and around the Upfield Bike Path and train line with work created for specific spaces. And one of the best ways to discover the work is of course, by bicycle!
Our first ride for 2015 will coincide with the launch of MoreArt so not only do you get first look at the works in the show but you get to celebrate its opening! We're thrilled to have Jane O'Neill joining us this year to host this and our other rides.
Jane O'Neill is a freelance art curator and the founder of Art Aficionado Tours - a Melbourne-based team of dedicated contemporary art curators committed to the promotion of Australian and International contemporary art projects through art tours, public talks, collection management and written essays.
And for this ride only we'll be joined by Larissa MacFarlane whose work, A Ritual of Handstands, (above) we'll also be visiting.
The MoreArt Launch Ride will be held on Sunday October 25th and will start from Moreland Station. We'll be taking in artwork at Coburg Mall, Coburg Library, and at various spots on the Upfield Shared Path.
The theme of this year's show is Participation and many of the art works are created to invite your involvement in one way or another. On this tour we'll be visiting Revolutionary Monuments where you are invited to bring an item that represents something you'd like to be rid of for 'execution' by a guillotine.
We will also visit Golden Opportunity another interactive piece for which you are invited to bring your favourite everyday object to be transformed at the Golden Opportunity Shop and leave with something unexpected and special.
Artists will be present as we view all the works to give some background on their work and answer questions.
Our final stop will be at the Mechanic's Institute on Sydney Road, Brunswick visiting two installations, Dream Boat and Suburban Therapy, before joining the official launch and celebration where refreshments will also be served.
This tour is appropriate for intermediate riders and will take place mainly on off road bike lanes (Upfield bike path) - some riding on on-road bike lanes and back streets required.
Bring some water, sunscreen and snacks, places limited to 22 participants.
This is a FREE ride but it is essential that you reserve your place.
